HOUSTON — A woman is claiming negligence after slipping at a Houston Supermercado and suffered debilitating injuries.

Vilma Cerna filed a complaint Aug. 30 in Harris County District Court against Supermercado El Rancho Inc., doing business as El Rancho Supermercado #34 and Mexico Foods LLC doing business as El Rancho Supermercado #34 alleging premises liability and negligence.

Cerna was shopping at the Supermercado El Rancho on West 34th Street in Houston on Aug. 28, 2019, according to her complaint. She alleges that she slipped on "a slippery substance" that was on the floor near the store's refrigeration units and suffered serious, debilitating injuries.

Cerna alleges that as a result of her slip and fall, she suffered physical pain, impairment, mental anguish, lost wages and incurred medical care expenses.

Cerna seeks monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, trial by jury and all otehr just relief. She is represented by William Mejia, Daniel Johnson and Juan Garcia of Johnson & Garcia LLP in Houston.
