HOUSTON — A woman is claiming the negligence of an elevator maintenance company after the door to the elevator she was entering suddenly closed on her hand and arm.

Veroncia Buchanan filed a complaint Sept. 13 in Harris County District Court against Thyssenkrupp Elevator Corporation alleging negligence.

Buchanan alleges in her suit that she was attempting to enter an elevator located at a property on Chasewood Park Drive in Houston. She claims that suddenly and without warning, the elevator doors closed on her hand and arm and caused her to suffer impairment, disfigurement, mental anguish and loss of earning capacity.

Buchanan alleges the defendant, who maintained the elevator, failed to keep it in a good and safe working condition or hire qualified employees and contractors to inspect the elevator. She also alleges the defendant's negligence for failing to properly warn of the unsafe conditions or defects of the elevator.

Buchanan seeks monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Matthew Parmet of Parmet PC in Houston and Amy Dunn of Amy Dunn PC in Houston.
