HOUSTON — A man claims lack of security and other safety measures at a property in Houston led to his being robbed and shot.

Arturo Caal filed a complaint Sept. 27 in Harris County District Court against Rama Raghu Apartments LLC, Nova Asset Management Inc., and Raghu Vanishi Properties LLC alleging negligence and premises liability.

According to his complaint, Caal was at the front gates of the defendants' property on Pinter Road in Houston on Sept. 30, 2020. He Claims that as he was waiting for his boss to pick him up at about 6:40 in the morning, four masked men attempted to rob him and shot him in the head.

Caal alleges the defendants were negligent for failing to make sure their premises was reasonably safe and free from conditions that pose unreasonable risk of harm. He also alleges the defendants did not provide adequate security for the premises such as having security guards, fencing, gates and lighting which made the area an "optimal location" for criminal acts.

Caal seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Matthew Mendoza and Tej Paranjpe of Paranjpe Mahadass Ruemke LLP in Houston.
