HOUSTON — A woman claims a metal bar fell on top of her while entering a Bath & Body Works store in Houston.

Jovita Lopez filed a complaint Nov. 1 in Harris County District Court against Bath & Body Works Inc., University Northeast LLC and Rice RE Holding I alleging negligence.

Lopez was at a Bath & Body Works store on University Boulevard in Houston on Dec. 7, 2019, according to her complaint. She claims that as she walked through the doorway, a metal bar fell from the top of the door frame and struck her in the head.

Lopez alleges that she suffered physical pain, impairment, disfigurement, mental anguish and lost wages as a result of the incident. She further alleges Bath & Body Works' negligence for failing to warn of the hazard, failing to inspect the area and make the condition reasonably safe. Lopez claims Bath & Body Works also failed to institute and enforce safety rules and regulations and failed to have proper training for its employees.

Lopez seeks monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, interest, trial by jury and allother just relief. She is represented by Mario de la Garza and Whitefield Logan of The De La Garza Law Group in Houston.
