DALLAS — Continuing  its expansion in Texas, O’Melveny has announced the arrival of  “rising star” trial and appellate lawyer Kristin Cope as a partner in  the firm’s new Dallas office, a press release states.

Formerly a partner in Baker Botts’  Dallas office, Cope has handled a wide range of complex commercial  litigation—including disputes over alleged breaches of contract, intellectual property, consumer laws, professional liability, and  general business torts, and has particular expertise in cases involving  trade secrets and technology. She also has extensive experience in  appellate matters.

Cope has been recognized as a “Texas Super  Lawyer-Rising Star” by Thomson Reuters and as an “Outstanding Young  Lawyer” by Texas Monthly.

Cope has represented clients from an  array of industries—including energy, technology, and finance—before  state and federal courts, including federal Courts of Appeal and the  United States Supreme Court. She served as trial counsel and appellate  advisor for one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies in a $1.4  billion trade-secrets case, and defended a major telecommunications  company against patent, trade-secret, and copyright claims. And as  appellate counsel for an aerospace contractor, she succeeded in  overturning a $38 million verdict.

“As we continue to strengthen  our Texas team, we are delighted to welcome Kristin to our Dallas  office,” said O’Melveny Chair Bradley J. Butwin. “She is an acclaimed,  talented litigator whose trial experience will be an immediate asset to  our clients in Texas and beyond. We are proud to add Kristin to our  impressive roster of exceptional young trial lawyers.”

“I’m  thrilled to join O’Melveny—a proven litigation powerhouse with a  distinctive collaborative culture,” said Cope. “As the firm continues  its exciting expansion in Texas, I’m confident that the clients I’m  honored to represent will benefit from O’Melveny’s global reach and  tireless commitment to helping them achieve their most important goals.”

An  active member of the Dallas community, Cope is an alumna of the  Leadership Arts Institute for the North Texas Business Council for the  Arts, where she co-chaired a project to bring opportunities for artistic  expression to homeless youths. She has also led fundraising efforts for  the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and United Way, created and  supported programs for local elementary schools, and coordinated relief  efforts to help hundreds of pets in the aftermath of a deadly tornado in  2015.

Cope earned her B.A. in political science summa cum laude  from Trinity University in San Antonio and her J.D. from Duke  University School of Law, graduating with honors, among the top 5% of  her class.

O’Melveny opened in Texas in June, establishing  offices in Austin and Dallas. Cope joins a Dallas team that includes  partners Tim Durst, Monica Hwang, Scott Paul Drake, Louis Strubeck Jr.,  Douglas Wabner, and Gregory Wilkes.
