Woman alleges slip & fall at Houston Goodwill store

HOUSTON — A woman alleges she slipped at a Goodwill store in Houston and suffered serious injuries. 

Gail Elizabeth Martens filed a complaint Dec. 15 in Harris County District Court against Goodwill Industries of Houston alleging premises liability and negligence. 

Martens, according to her complaint was at the Goodwill Industries on Westheimer Road in Houston on June 8, 2020. She claims that she slipped and fell on a "slippery substance" and suffered "serious and permanent" injuries. 

Martens alleges the defendant made no effort to warn of the substance on the floor and was negligent for failing to keep its premises reasonably safe. She also alleges Goodwill failed to properly inspect and clean its store or to implement safety and inspection policies and procedures. 

She claims as a result of her slip and fall, she suffered pain, impairment, lost wages and incurred medical, hospital and pharmaceutical expenses. 

Martens seeks monetary relief of less than $250,000, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Katherine James and John Hallman of The James Law Firm in The Woodlands.
