HOUSTON — An apartment tenant alleges she suffered an aggravated robbery and carjacking due to lack of security at the complex.

Rashinka Pradhan filed a complaint Jan. 4 in Harris County District Court against Palms at Clear Lake Owner, LLC and CAF Management LLC alleging negligence and other claims.

Pradhan was a tenant at The Palms at Clear Lake apartments beginning in 2019, according to her suit. She claims that on several occasions, the main gates to the apartment complex were broken and left open for "prolonged" periods of time.

She alleges that on March 6, 2021, while returning to her apartment, she was assaulted by three suspects inside the parking lot of the complex with one of the assailants pointing a gun at her and her purse being snatched away.

Pradhan further alleges that she was hit in the forehead with the pistol, knocked to the ground while her car keys were taken and one of the assailants driving off in her vehicle. She claims the defendants failed to keep their premises safe or warn of the risk of harm and knew or should have known about similar crimes that had taken place at the apartment complex.

Pradhan seeks monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Jill Yaziji of the Yaziji Law Firm PLLC in Houston.
