HOUSTON — A woman alleges she suffered medical complications after her dentist negligently directed her to stop her heart medication prior to a dental procedure.

Margo Barnes filed a complaint  Feb. 8 in Harris County District Court against Dung Huynh, DDS and Texas Dental Associates PA doing business as Lovett Dental alleging negligence.

Barnes alleges in her complaint that she saw Huynh on Feb. 12, 2020, and was diagnosed with periodontal disease. She further alleges that she was then scheduled to undergo scaling and root planning treatments and was told to stop taking her Plavix anti-platelet treatment a week prior to treatment. Barnes claims her appointment was re-scheduled several times by Lovett Dental due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused her to hold her medicine several times.

She claims as a result of stopping and restarting her medication, she suffered severe cardiovascular complications and had to be treated in the emergency room at CHI St. Lukes. Barnes alleges the defendants' negligence for failing to consult with her physician regarding interrupting her medication regimen and for failing to have appropriate polices and procedures on maintaining patient records.

Barnes seeks monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Mark Weycer and Elena Bueno of The Weycer Law Firm PC in Bellaire.
