HOUSTON — A woman alleges she suffered from a scalp fungus and infection after a visit to a Houston hair salon.

Krystal Bell filed a complaint Feb. 14 in Harris County District Court against Tamea Swanson doing business as True Stylist Exclusive Salon alleging negligence.

Bell was at the True Stylist Executive Salon on Westheimer Road in Houston on Feb. 15, 2020, according to her suit. She alleges that she experienced a swollen, red scalp and that a weave was installed into her hair without treating or cleaning the hair. Bell also alleges that while under the hair dryer, she began to feel a tingling sensation and that after a few days, her head began to burn and her scalp began to form "puss pockets."

She claims she then developed a rash which spread to her face and was diagnosed at an urgent care with a scalp infection and fungus. She further claims the defendant threatened her when she called to complain about her condition and alleges their negligence for failing to properly clean and disinfect their equipment.

Bell claims the defendants failed to follow Texas Health and Safety guidelines and used a product or procedure that came into contact with the dermis layer of her skin.

Bell seeks monetary relief, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Jason Yancey of Yancey Legal Group LLC in Houston.
