HOUSTON - A lawsuit seeking more than $1 million in damages was brought against The Downtown Club today.

According to the lawsuit, on Nov. 28, 2021, plaintiff Jeff Wunderlich was exercising at the The Downtown Club at The Met and using the TechnoGym Cable Station Dual Pulley machine when the weighted, steel cable abruptly snapped.

“The snapping of the cable mid-exercise violently caused the attachment that was connected to the now broken cable to strike Plaintiff in his head and launch Plaintiff backwards from the machine,” the suit states. “Plaintiff landed on his left knee which buckled under the full weight of his body, resulting in immediate swelling and immense pain.”

The suit accuses the defendant of negligence.

The plaintiff is suing for his past and future medical expenses, pain, mental anguish and impairment. He also seeks exemplary damages.

Attorneys Scott Armstrong and Teri Russell of the Armstrong & Lee law firm in Houston represent him.

Filed in Harris County District Court, case No. 2022-18736
