Lawsuits

HOUSTON — A woman alleges lack of safety measures at a manufacturing plant led to her father's wrongful death.

Sarah Harp, individually and as legal representative of the Estate of John Harp, deceased filed a complaint  April 21 in Harris County District Court against GulfTex Manufacturing Inc., alleging wrongful death, negligence and other claims.

According to the plaintiff's complaint, her father, John Harp, who was 62 years old at the time, was working for GulfTex on Nov. 22, 2021, and was operating a vertical turret lathe. She claims that the lathe machine had "nip points and rotating parts" and no protective guard and that her father became caught in the machine and suffered fatal injuries.

Harp alleges GulfTex's negligence for failing to provide a guard to protect the machine operator and for failing to remove metal shavings on the floor around the machine. She further alleges GulfTex knew the extreme risk and potential hazards involved in operating the machine and failed to use ordinary care for the safety of its employees.

The plaintiff seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Gregory Fibich and  Kenneth Fibich of Fibich Leebron in Houston and Charles Argento of Charles Argento & Associates in Houston.
