GALVESTON — A woman alleges a dangerous drop off at the entrance to her apartment complex's dog park caused her to suffer a fractured ankle and other injuries.

Lauren Mackey filed a complaint  Aug. 8 in Galveston County District Court against Strata Beacon, KV Beacon Lake Apartments LLC and others alleging premises liability and negligence.

Mackey, according to her complaint, was a resident at Beacon Lake in Galveston on Aug. 16, 2020. She claims as she entered the dog park on the complex through the main gate, she encountered a steep and unmarked change in the elevation and suffered a fractured ankle, injuries to her foot and other parts of her body after stepping onto a concrete paver.

She claims the defendants were negligent for failing to detect the hazardous condition at the dog park, failed to warn of the hazard and allowed the hazardous drop off to remain in a high traffic area. Mackey also claims the defendants failed to use reasonable care in reducing or eliminating the risk of harm of the dangerous drop off at the dog park entrance. She alleges as a result of her injuries, she suffered disfigurement, pain, lost wages, impairment and incurred medical treatment costs.

Mackey seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Kenneth Baird of The Baird Law Firm in Houston.
