Justices affirm denial of motion to compel arbitration in suit alleging worker injured on oil rig

State Court

HOUSTON - The 14th Court of Appeals has affirmed the denial of Precision Directional Services’ motion to compel arbitration in a personal injury lawsuit brought by a worker allegedly injured on an oil rig.

The personal injury lawsuit was brought by Chris Ferron in 2020. Ferron was allegedly injured while working for Precision Directional as part of a drilling crew on an oil rig, according to the 14th Court’s Aug. 23 opinion.

Court records show Precision Directional moved to compel arbitration. When the trial court denied the motion, the company appealed, arguing that the trial court abused its discretion.

“Because appellant failed to meet its burden to show that an arbitration agreement exists, it has not shown that the trial court abused its discretion in denying the motion to compel arbitration,” the opinion states. “We affirm the trial court’s order denying appellant’s motion to compel arbitration.”
