HOUSTON — The estate of a woman who suffered fatal complications from a fall at a Houston office building is claiming wrongful death.
Nicole Ann Beckman and Kenneth C. Sharretts, as representative of the Estate of Karen Power Beckman, filed a complaint Oct. 4, 2022, against Schiller Re Investments LLC and I.M.C.S. of Houston Inc., alleging wrongful death.
According to the plaintiffs' complaint, the deceased, Karen Power Beckman, who was 54 at the time, worked as an administrative assistant for an independent Allstate Insurance agency at the defendants' office building on FM 1960 West in Houston. The plaintiffs claim that on Aug. 3, 2021, Beckman parked her car and tripped on a gap between a ramp and tile section with broken concrete.
Specifically, the plaintiffs claim Beckman's toe got caught in about an one inch gap and caused her to break her humerus bone. They allege that complications from Beckman's broken humerus caused her to develop a pulmonary embolism and her death on Aug. 16, 2021. The plaintiffs allege the defendants' negligence for allowing the condition, which posed an unreasonable risk of harm, to exist and for failing to adequately warn of the danger.
The plaintiffs seek monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Joseph Schreiber and Erik Knockaert of Schreiber Knockaert PLLC in Houston.
