Global law firm Reed Smith announced today that technology transactions and privacy lawyer Rocio Palomo has joined the firm’s Global Corporate Group in Dallas. Palomo joins Reed Smith from Perkins Coie.
Palomo counsels enterprise and consumer-facing companies on various legal issues related to the development, procurement, protection and commercial viability of their technology and proprietary assets. Specifically, she focuses on providing pragmatic business advice related to technology transactions and transactional privacy issues. Her commercial work includes the review and negotiations of contracts and transactions involving software-as-a-service (SAAS), cloud computing, software licensing, data licensing, technology outsourcing and ecommerce, and related privacy provisions. Additionally, Palomo regularly manages due diligence processes related to IP and commercial contracts, and provides counsel on data privacy and security issues, open-source compliance, as well as other unique IP issues that arise in complex transactions.
“Our Tech & Data group has been an area in high demand among our clients, and as such, we have been in the market for tech transactions and privacy lawyers who have advised both major technology clients and clients for whom technology is at the core of their business strategy,” said James Tandler, global co-chair of Reed Smith’s Global Corporate Group. “We are thrilled to bring Rocio on as her technical knowledge, experience working internally and as outside counsel for multi-billion dollar tech companies, and dynamic and entrepreneurial spirit are assets that will be highly valued by clients and mesh well with our global team.”
Outside of her practice, Rocio is heavily involved in the Hispanic National Bar Association.
“My decision to join Reed Smith was driven primarily by the synergies I saw between my practice and the firm’s tech and data team and its corporate practice in general - entrepreneurial in nature, collaborative in approach, and client-focused,” said Palomo. “I am truly excited about the potential to grow my tech transactions and practice at a firm with both an expansive global platform and a clear commitment to grow in Dallas and Texas more broadly.”
Palomo is the second significant partner hire in Reed Smith’s Dallas office in as many months. In December, the firm announced the arrival of Erin England, who brought to the firm a highly regarded fund finance and private credit practice.
“Texas continues to be a growth market for the firm, as evidenced by top legal talent that has been drawn to us in Dallas since establishing a presence here several years ago,” said Omar Alaniz, Reed Smith’s Dallas office managing partner. “With Rocio’s arrival, we are continuing to diversify our practice capabilities in the office, all with an eye towards meeting the sophisticated needs of our clients in Dallas and elsewhere.”
