GALVESTON — A bicyclist claims an obstructed view at the exit of a League City Dunkin Donuts caused him to be struck by a vehicle.

William Clayton Dean filed a complaint Jan. 31 in Galveston County District Court against UpCounty Texas Donuts LLC and Inspire Brands Inc., alleging negligence and premises liability.

According to Dean's complaint, the defendants operate a Dunkin Donuts on Marina Bay Drive in League City. He alleges that signage, shrubs and trees at the exit of the shop obstruct the view of drivers and those on the public sidewalk. He further alleges that on March 11, 2021, as he was riding his bike, a driver exiting the Dunkin Donuts struck him and caused him to suffer injuries to his ankle, shoulder and back which required surgeries.

Dean alleges the defendants' negligence for failing to maintain the shrubs, signs and trees on the Dunkin Donuts property, failed to maintain a safe exit on the property and failed to provide safe travel upon the public sidewalk and roadway abutting the property. He also alleges the defendants failed to inspect the property or warn of the dangerous condition.

Dean seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by Rich Melendez of Melendez Law PC in Houston.
