HOUSTON — A bar patron who was shot by another patron is claiming negligence against the establishment.

Angel Bustos filed a complaint Feb. 22 in Harris County District Court against Lazy Frog Corporation alleging negligence.

According to Bustos' complaint, she got into an "alcohol-infused argument" with another bar patron at the Lazy Frog in Houston on July 3, 2021. She claims the patron is known at the bar and previously discharged a firearm on the premises. Bustos further claims the patron left the bar and came back in at 3 a.m., with a firearm when the bar should have legally closed, and shot her four times.

She alleges the Lazy Frog's negligence for failing to use ordinary care in supervising and training its employees. She also alleges the bar failed to use ordinary care in aiding and protecting others from danger. Bustos claims she suffered pain, mental anguish, loss of earning capacity, disfigurement, impairment and incurred medical care expenses.

Bustos seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by L. Todd Kelly and Andreea Cruz of The Carlson Law Firm PC in Austin.
