HOUSTON — A renter who fell through the roof of the attic and suffered severe injuries is claiming negligence.

Paul Cavazos filed a complaint March 4 in Harris County District Court against Cecil Courts Investments LP, Precision Realty & Management, Plumbing Source LLC and others alleging negligence.

Cavazos, according to his complaint, was renting a home on St. Agnes Street in Houston which was owned by CCI and managed by Precision Realty. He claims he notified CCI and Precision about an issue with the gas hookup at the residence and that Plumbing Source came to the home to inspect the attic near the hot water heater.

Cavazos further claims on March 4, 2021, the hot water was not working and when he went into the attic to check on the water heater, he stepped on carpet that was laid out like a walkway and fell through the attic floor. He alleges the defendants failed to provide a safe means of accessing the attic in the home and that their agents' negligence caused his injuries.

Cavazos seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Brent Phelps and Tej Paranjpe of Paranjpe Mahadass Ruemke LLP in Houston.
