GALVESTON — A dog breeder claims an animal clinic mistakenly declawed her one-day old Yorkshire puppies.
Cheryl Mann filed a complaint May 8 in Galveston County District Court against Helen Lucille Martin, DVM, individually and doing business as Dr. Helen Martin and Associates and Baylor Animal Clinic Inc., alleging negligence and other claims.
Mann, according to her complaint, is a breeder of Yorkshire Terriers who took her one day old female Yorkshire puppies to Martin's veterinary clinic in September of 2022, to have the puppies' tails docked. She claims that when her son picked up the puppies, they had surgical glue on their legs, feet and paws and had been declawed.
Mann further claims she only requested the tail docking procedure for her puppies and not the declawing. She alleges that due to the unapproved, unauthorized declaw procedure, her one day old puppies' legs, feet and paws became infected with one puppy requiring the amputation of his paw.
She also alleges the procedure caused severe impairment of both puppies' legs which have required additional veterinary care. Mann claims the defendants made false and misleading statements that the only service to be provided would be the tail docking procedure.
Mann seeks monetary relief, interest and all other just relief.
She is represented by Sarnie Randle, Jr., of S.A. Randle & Associates PC in Houston.
