HOUSTON — An area law firm has filed a petition on behalf of Eduardo Olivo, a worker hospitalized after suffering second and third-degree burns during the May 15 Marathon Texas City Refinery fire, a press release states.
Olivo is represented by partner Mo Aziz, attorneys Karl Long and Jessie Ormand of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner, along with attorney Hilda Sibrian of The Law Offices of Hilda L. Sibrian.
According to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s initial investigation, the fire erupted in the Refinery’s Ultraformer Unit #3 at approximately 9:30 a.m. Monday morning and lasted for four hours.
According to initial reports, the fire started when a splitter pump developed a leak and caught fire. The fire consisted of multiple industrial and toxic chemicals. The Unit was then depressured to flare until stable several hours later.
As a result of the fire, Eduardo Olivo was transported via ambulance to UTMB Galveston Burn Unit for second and third-degree burns to his hands, wrists, arms, face, neck, and ears. He also continues to suffer from chest pain, blurry vision, and headaches due to the exposure.
“These last few weeks we have seen several plant fires in the Texas Gulf coast region,” said attorney Mo Aziz. ”These workers are being severely injured, and their lives changed forever. Today’s filing is the first step in the investigation process.”
