HOUSTON — An African American female alleges she suffered race discrimination while working for American Furniture Warehouse.

Leslie Smith filed a complaint June 13 in Harris County District Court against American Furniture Warehouse Co., alleging race discrimination.

Smith, according to her complaint, is an African American woman who worked for American Furniture from July 2019 through November 2022. She alleges that she suffered bullying and harassment from her white supervisor Marco LNU and that he and other managers made false accusations of her stealing time when they forced her to work off the clock through breaks and adjusted her time records to avoid paying her proper compensation.

Marco further alleges she complained to HR about the illegal conduct but nothing was done to correct the issue. She claims she was wrongfully terminated in 2022, and suffered emotional pain and economic damages due to the actions of American Furniture's managers.

Smith seeks monetary relief between $250,000 and $1million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Dennis Richard of The Law Office of Dennis L. Richard in San Antonio.
