HOUSTON — A woman alleges her physicians failed to inform her that her pap smear showed cancerous cells.

Wendy Story Frisbee filed a complaint June 13 in Harris County District Court against Family Medicine MMC, PA, Dr. Jose A. Rodriguez and Dr. Maria Mejia alleging negligence and other claims.

Frisbee alleges that in March of 2021, she was seen by Rodriguez for a well woman exam and pap test. She claims that the lab results showed abnormal epithelial cells and glandular cells and that she was never provided with the results until February of 2022.

Frisbee further claims that she was then referred to a specialist but by that time the cancer had spread and progressed which caused her to have a radical hysterectomy, chemotherapy and other cancer treatments. She alleges the defendants' negligence for failing to take action which allowed her cancer to spread for nearly a full year and continued to incorrectly note on her medical records that her pap test was normal despite the lab results.

Frisbee claims the defendants failed to meet the standard of care for disclosing medical information and test results to her in a timely manner.

Frisbee seeks monetary relief, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Alton Todd of The Law Firm of Alton C. Todd in Friendswood.
