HOUSTON - A lawsuit alleging a moving trailer erupted in flames is seeking between $250,000 and $1 million in damages.

Sean and Trina Whitaker and Lloyd and Jackie Berry filed suit against International Van Lines, Major Van Lines, American Knights Moving & Storage and Navy Seals Moving on Jan. 5 in Harris County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, the plaintiffs entered into a contract with the defendants for the packing and moving of the contents of their homes. Near the end of the move on Jan. 25, 2022, the trailer began emitting smoke.

“Then, rather than safely responding to the situation or waiting for emergency personnel, Defendants’ driver opened the back of the trailer, providing the fire with oxygen, and causing the trailer to immediately erupt in flames,” the suit states.

The plaintiffs are suing for actual and exemplary damages.
