HOUSTON - Claiming she was not fit for the task, a housekeeper is suing the Houston couple she worked for after falling off an attic ladder while putting up Christmas decorations for them.

Seeking more than $1 million in damages, Geraldine Torres filed suit against Snehal and Adrienne Amin on Jan. 5 in Harris County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Dec. 30, 2022, Torres was working for the Amins as a housekeeper and a babysitter when she was “assigned to put Christmas decor into the attic.”

“The Plaintiff was not trained for accomplishing this duty, and upon a reasonable understanding was not fit for the task,” the suit states. “Accordingly, as she was accomplishing this newly assigned task, she fell from the attic ladder sustaining physical injuries.”

Torres alleges the defendants negligently failed to provide her with a safe workplace, and proceeded with conscious indifference to her safety.

In addition to exemplary damages, she is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, pain, impairment, lost earnings and mental anguish.

The Heard Merman Law Firm represents her.
