HOUSTON - A man who stayed at Hilton Galveston Island Resort two years ago is claiming a grab bar broke and caused him to fall down.

Seeking up to $1 million in damages, Gene Thompson filed suit against Fertitta Hospitality and Landry’s G.P. on Feb. 23 in Harris County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Feb. 25, 2022, Thompson was a guest at Hilton Galveston. As he was preparing to take a shower, he grasped the grab bar on the wall and it broke off, causing him to fall down and twist his back.

Management discovered the fixtures for the grab bar were rusted and insecure, the suit states.

Thompson is alleging premises liability and gross negligence.

Attorney Henry D. Drewinko represents him.
