HOUSTON — A lawsuit has been filed against Advantek Waste Management Services and Drillwell following a saltwater disposal plant explosion that injured several workers.

Advantek Plant | Westhoff, Texas

Seeking more than $1 million in damages, Bryant Bennett filed the suit on May 22 in Harris County District Court.

According to the petition, on May 17 Bennett was working at an oilfield waste disposal facility in Westhoff owned by Advantek. At the time of the incident, a Drillwell truck was parked in a wash bay at the facility which is adjacent to flammable waste tanks.

Bennett observed the driver of the Drillwell truck lift the hood of his truck and then immediately felt an explosion. He was injured by the blast

The explosion occurred around 2:30 p.m. Hazardous materials were being offloaded at the facility at the time. Following the blast, the facility caught on fire, resulting in additional explosions.

“Shipping, handling, and transfer of flammable materials can be highly hazardous if proper safety protocols and procedures are not followed,” said Mo Aziz, a partner at Abraham Watkins representing Bennett.

“If proper permitting and procedures are followed, then an uncontrolled release of flammable materials should not occur at a jobsite.”

Attorney Edward “Ted” Keenan, along with attorney Giovanni Padilla and Adrian Zuniga of the Z & P Law Group, also represent Bennett.
