A recent court filing has brought to light a severe personal injury case involving a Texas-based religious organization. On July 18, 2024, Orlando Lemus Rivera filed a complaint in the District Court of Harris County against Iglesia Cristiana Pena de Horeb Apostoles Y Profetas Inc., alleging negligence that led to his serious injuries.

According to the lawsuit, Rivera was performing his duties at the church's facility on August 12, 2023, when he fell from a ladder while conducting maintenance work on an elevated security camera. The plaintiff claims that the defendant failed to provide adequate training, supervision, and safety measures, which directly resulted in his debilitating injuries. "Defendant’s ladder caused Plaintiff to fall during the course of his work," states the complaint.

Rivera's legal team argues that the church neglected its duty of care by not ensuring a safe working environment. The allegations include failure to train and supervise properly, recognize and correct unsafe conditions, provide adequate safety rules and procedures, inspect the job site for hazards, and furnish suitable tools and equipment. These lapses in safety protocols are cited as proximate causes of Rivera's injuries.

The plaintiff is seeking monetary relief ranging from $250,000 to $1,000,000 for medical expenses, pain and suffering, physical impairment and disfigurement, lost wages, and future loss of earning capacity. Additionally, Rivera demands pre-judgment and post-judgment interest as well as coverage for court costs.

Representing Rivera are attorneys Sarah Y-Nhi Huynh from The Huynh Law Firm PLLC and Hilda Leonor Sibrian from The Law Offices of Hilda L. Sibrian P.C. The case is presided over by Judge Bernitta Barrett under Case ID 2024-45149.
