A Houston resident is seeking justice after a dog attack left her with significant injuries. Jacquelyn Dodson filed a complaint in the Harris County District Court on August 7, 2024, against Caitlin Barnett, alleging negligence and seeking substantial monetary relief.
According to the court documents, Jacquelyn Dodson was delivering a package to Caitlin Barnett's residence at 2518 Chenevert St., Houston, Texas when Barnett's dog attacked her. The incident occurred as Dodson handed her phone to Barnett for a signature. Without warning, the dog emerged from behind Barnett and bit Dodson. The plaintiff claims that Barnett failed to exercise proper care in managing her pet, leading to this unfortunate event.
Dodson's lawsuit accuses Barnett of multiple counts of negligence. The plaintiff asserts that Barnett did not maintain adequate control over her animal or take necessary precautions to prevent such an attack. Specifically, the lawsuit states that Barnett "failed to exercise ordinary care in having animals on her premises" and "failed to confine, restrain, handle and/or control animals in question." Additionally, Dodson alleges that Barnett neglected to warn visitors about the dog's aggressive nature and did not maintain her property in a manner that would prevent the dog from escaping.
The legal filing details several areas where Dodson has suffered due to the attack. She is seeking compensation for physical pain and suffering, medical expenses (both current and future), disfigurement (current and future), physical impairment, inconvenience, custodial care services, and loss of earnings or income. In addition to these damages, Dodson is also requesting prejudgment and post-judgment interest on all awarded damages.
In her petition, Dodson requests that the court issue a citation commanding Barnett to appear and respond to the allegations. She seeks judgment against Barnett for all requested reliefs as well as any other relief deemed appropriate by both equity and law.
