Harris County has taken legal action against an individual following a vehicular incident that resulted in damages. On January 2, 2025, Harris County filed a complaint in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, against Robert Deshon Jones. The lawsuit seeks to address the damages caused by Jones's alleged negligence during a traffic accident.

The case revolves around an incident that occurred on December 12, 2023, at the 8500 block of the Katy Freeway in Harris County. According to the petition filed by Harris County, Robert Deshon Jones was operating a 2013 Infiniti G37 when he lost control and struck a concrete barrier. The county claims that this incident resulted in damages amounting to $1,376.00. The plaintiff argues that Jones failed to exercise ordinary care and prudence while driving, which led to the accident and subsequent damages.

Harris County alleges multiple breaches of duty by Jones, including failure to control speed, maintain proper vehicle control, keep a proper lookout, take evasive action to avoid collision, apply brakes timely, heed warning signs, drive within marked lanes of traffic, and yield the right of way. Additionally, the county asserts that Jones did not establish financial responsibility for his vehicle as required under Texas Transportation Code § 601.501 on the day of the accident.

The lawsuit further accuses Robert Deshon Jones of negligence per se for violating several statutes related to automobile operation. These include reckless driving under Texas Transportation Code § 545.401 and failing to adhere to maximum speed requirements outlined in § 545.351. Harris County maintains that these statutory violations constitute negligence as a matter of law because they directly endangered public safety and resulted in property damage.

In its prayer for relief, Harris County requests that Robert Deshon Jones be cited to appear and answer the allegations made against him. The county seeks judgment for its costs of suit and prejudgment interest along with any other relief deemed justly entitled under law or equity.

Representing Harris County is Christian D. Menefee from the office of the Harris County Attorney with Senior Assistant County Attorney Brian Quintero handling specifics related to this case. The case has been assigned Case ID: 2025-00055 and will be presided over by judges at the District Court located in Harris County.
