Anderson Tittle | Baylor University School Of Law

Anderson Tittle, a third-year JD/MBA student at Baylor Law School, has been appointed to the 2024-2025 Editorial Board of the American Bar Association (ABA) Law Student Division. This notable selection places her among a distinguished group of only nine law students from across the country who will oversee and develop content for Student Lawyer, one of the nation’s most influential publications for law students.

The ABA Law Student Division is the largest organization of law students in the United States, boasting over 60,000 members. Each month, tens of thousands of individuals read Student Lawyer, its flagship journal. Members of the Editorial Board play a crucial role in writing articles, generating new content ideas, and providing editorial leadership to address the evolving needs of law students.

Anderson regards this designation as a great honor and evidence of the exceptional training she has received as a Baylor Law School student. “Being selected for the Editorial Board was such an exciting opportunity that was only possible through the support and recommendation of the Baylor faculty,” Anderson stated. “In being selected, I’ve been able to engage with other law students and consider the legal field from a new perspective.”

The Editorial Board selection process is rigorous. Applicants must demonstrate strong writing skills and provide multiple examples of non-academic writing. They must also commit to writing two to three original pieces during their one-year term. In addition to writing, Board members collaborate with their peers and the Law Student Editor-in-Chief to cultivate ideas and meet the publication’s editorial requirements.

Anderson’s achievement also highlights the practical and career-focused training for which Baylor Law School is known.  “One thing that has become very clear is that Baylor uniquely equips its students,” she explained. “More than anything else, it’s become clear that Baylor Law School teaches its students to think about law from a career perspective and what being a lawyer will actually look like, day in and day out, which is a rare feature in law schools.”

Bringing the Baylor Law School Perspective to a National Stage

As a member of the Editorial Board, Anderson will have the opportunity to influence the conversation on issues that matter most to law students. Her Baylor Law School experience uniquely positions her to bring practical insights to the Board. “Because Baylor Law teaches law in the context of actual legal practice, I can think about how articles Student Lawyer publishes will affect or inform other students,” Anderson said. “I’d like to think that the magazine publishes articles that will be valuable to students and incoming attorneys, so having a bit of context and making a value judgment about what we should write about or think about is critical.”

For her contributions to Student Lawyer, Anderson plans to focus on topics that resonate deeply with law students navigating the demands of legal education and professional development. “In my contributions, I’ve focused on actionable strategies for work-life equilibrium. Practice Court taught me that you don’t really leave work at work, so it’s important to learn how to find your career equilibrium and protect yourself from burnout,” she shared.

Preparing for a Future in Academia and Writing

Anderson’s selection to the ABA Editorial Board complements her overarching professional objectives. “In the long term, I’d like to focus more on academia and writing, and being able to participate and get a glimpse into article writing and the publishing process has been such a wonderful stepping stone,” she said. “I have another summer and a year left of school before I graduate, and I am endlessly grateful for the opportunity to gain experience and learn what my future could look like before stepping into it, so to speak.”

Anderson’s legal education has been further enhanced by her enrollment in the dual JD/MBA program offered by Baylor Law School and Baylor’s Hankamer School of Business. Developed for students who want to work at the nexus of business and the law, the dual degree program enables students to pursue both a Master of Business Administration and a Juris Doctorate simultaneously. Business lawyers benefit significantly from a thorough understanding of the management and financial challenges confronting companies, start-ups, and non-governmental organizations. At the same time, business executives with an insight into the law enhance their capacity to assess risk, make strategic business decisions, and avoid legal pitfalls in the day-to-day management of their organizations.

An Impactful Role

Serving on the Editorial Board of the ABA Law Student Division is a unique opportunity for Anderson, and her dual training in law and business will enhance her contributions and provide valuable insights into her role on the Board. Few opportunities exist for law students to engage with such a large and influential audience. Members of the Board are not only responsible for creating high-quality content but also for shaping the direction of Student Lawyer as a resource for future lawyers.

Anderson’s nomination recognizes her exceptional skills and the practical training she received at Baylor Law School. As she approaches her final year in the joint degree program, Anderson’s position on the Editorial Board provides her an excellent opportunity to connect her legal education with her professional goals, and she is poised to make her mark on the legal community even before she graduates.
