A Harris County resident has taken legal action against a major retail corporation following an alleged injury on their premises. Laura L. Castillo filed a complaint on March 7, 2025, in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, accusing Sam’s East, Inc., doing business as Sam’s Club #8281, of negligence and premises liability after she suffered injuries from a fall at one of their locations.

The incident occurred on July 11, 2023, when Castillo visited the Sam's Club located at 13,600 East Freeway in Houston. According to the complaint, while at the food court near the counter, Castillo slipped and fell due to an unknown liquid substance on the floor that lacked any surrounding caution signs. The fall resulted in severe injuries requiring medical attention. Castillo asserts that Sam’s Club had a duty to maintain safe premises for its invitees and failed to inspect or warn her about the dangerous condition. She argues that the defendant knew or should have known about the hazardous condition but neglected to take necessary precautions to prevent harm.

Castillo's lawsuit includes multiple causes of action: premise liability, negligence, and negligent training and supervision. She claims that Sam’s Club was negligent in maintaining its premises by failing to ensure aisles were safe and not adequately inspecting or correcting dangerous conditions. Additionally, Castillo accuses Sam’s Club of failing to properly train employees on safety procedures and maintenance issues. The plaintiff contends that these failures directly contributed to her injuries and subsequent damages.

In her petition, Castillo seeks monetary relief exceeding $250,000 but not more than $1 million for damages including medical expenses (both past and future), physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, physical impairment, lost earning capacity, and other related costs. She also requests pre-judgment and post-judgment interest along with court costs.

Representing Laura L. Castillo is Kimberly K. Bruno from Bruno Law Group PLLC based in Houston. The case is assigned Case ID 2025-15926 in Harris County District Court with Judge Taiasha Bradford presiding over initial filings.
