In a gripping legal battle that underscores the importance of safety in public spaces, a Harris County resident has taken on a major retail corporation over alleged negligence. On April 10, 2025, Ctara Anderson filed a complaint in the District Court of Harris County against H-E-B, LP, alleging that the company’s negligence led to her suffering severe personal injuries.

The lawsuit details an incident that occurred on December 12, 2003, when Anderson was visiting an H-E-B store located at 6055 South Freeway in Houston, Texas. According to the complaint, Anderson slipped and fell due to an unmarked wet floor within the premises. The plaintiff claims that H-E-B failed to display adequate warning signs about the hazardous condition and neglected to maintain their premises safely. "As Plaintiff was traveling through Defendant’s Premises, she suddenly and unexpectedly slipped in a liquid and violently fell to the ground," states the petition. Anderson accuses H-E-B of having actual or constructive knowledge of this dangerous condition yet failing to remedy it or warn patrons adequately.

The lawsuit further alleges multiple counts of negligence against H-E-B. These include failure to display wet floor signs, maintain safe premises, properly train employees on eliminating hazards, supervise staff adequately, inspect areas timely, and negligent hiring practices. Each of these failures is claimed to have contributed singularly or collectively as proximate causes of Anderson's injuries.

Anderson seeks monetary relief ranging from $250,000 to less than $1 million for damages incurred due to physical pain, mental anguish, disfigurement, loss of earnings both past and future, and ongoing medical expenses related to her injuries. Additionally, she demands a jury trial and requests both pre-judgment and post-judgment interest as permitted by law.

Representing Ctara Anderson is Bradley W. Tilton II from Tilton & Tilton LLP based in Houston. The case has been assigned Case ID 2025-25109 under Judge Monica Jackson at the 215th Judicial District Court in Harris County.
