A New York State resident filed a lawsuit against two hotel corporations alleging negligence and premises liability in a 2015 doorway accident.
Antwan Henry Sr. filed a complaint against Choice Hotels International Inc. doing business in Austin, Vantage Parkway Hospitality LLC d/b/a Quality Suites of Houston, and Tara Wagner of Galveston County on June 16 in Galveston County District Court, claiming gross negligence, malice or actual fraud in a January 2015 accident allegedly resulting in the plaintiff’s injury.
According to the suit, Henry was a guest at Quality Suites Intercontinental West at 15321 Vantage Parkway in Houston on or about Jan. 18. The suit states that as the plaintiff exited the hotel, its entryway double doors closed violently on his head, causing serious and permanent personal injury.
Henry faults Quality Suites and its parent business, Choice Hotels, for negligent training and supervision, failure to follow industry standards, and failure to warn patrons of the doors’ malfunction.
The plaintiff alleges that the defendant’s breach of duty resulted in his pain, anguish, disfigurement and impairment. Noting medical expenses and loss of earning capacity, Henry seeks actual and exemplary damages between $200,000 and $1 million, pre- and post-judgment interest; attorney’s fees; expenses, and costs.
He is represented by Stephen Carrigan and Andrew Cook of Carrigan, Cook & Anderson in Houston.
