Laundromat door falls, injures PA woman

Last month Chantel Laurent paid a visit to EZ Washateria in Port Arthur for "business purposes." She alleges that when she entered the laundry mat, an unhinged door fell on her, causing Laurent to suffer serious and permanent injuries, plus mental anguish.

Seeking to recover more than $50,000 in damages, Laurent filed a personal injury lawsuit against Swati Enterprises Inc. and Mohammad Azam Swati, the washateria's owners, with the Jefferson County District Court on July 13.

According to the plaintiff's original petition, on June 4, 2007, Laurent "tried to enter the washateria for business purposes when the door fell on her causing injuries."

"The incident was caused by an unreasonably dangerous condition which defendants created," the suit said.

The suit goes on to say the Laurent's injuries were allegedly caused by the defendants' negligence, and that the incident has caused her to incur substantial medical bills, experience physical impairment and suffer a loss in earning capacity.

Laurent is represented by The Law Offices of John A. Carwile.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th Judicial District, will preside over the case.
