  • Joey and Jennifer Bergeron vs. Countrywide Home Loans Inc.

PA - Jason Byrd, J - Dennis Powell

After Hurricane Rita cut a swath through Southeast Texas, Countrywide granted several Golden triangle residents a reprieve from making monthly mortgage payments. Now more than two years later, Countrywide is seeking to collect on those back payments. Orange County residents Joey and Jennifer Bergeron claim Countrywide misrepresented the conditions of the payment suspension program and is now unfairly requesting a lump sum payment plus additional late fees.

    Case No. B080086-c

  • Teresa and Tony Reed vs. Deep South Logging et al

PA - Timothy Ferguson, J - Buddy Hahn

Yelling "timber" wouldn't have stopped a freshly-cut tree from falling on power lines, "which caused damage to the wiring and appliances in" Teresa and Tony Reed's Vidor home. The Reeds are suing Luther Angelo and his company Deep South Logging, claiming the tree-cutting business "created an unreasonably dangerous condition."

The Reeds are also suing their neighbors, Robert and Dixie Loftin, who hired Deep South Logging to cut down the tree on their property. The Reeds are suing for actual and consequential damages.

    Case No. D080059-c
