Coon, Umphrey law firms to host holiday events

Two of Beaumont's most well-known plaintiffs' firms, Provost Umphrey and Brent Coon & Associates, are holding holiday events next week.

On Friday, Dec. 18, Brent Coon & Associates will cut the ribbon on the firm's new offices in the Kyle Building, 215 Orleans St. in downtown Beaumont. The art deco style Kyle Building, once a popular retail center, is on the National Register of Historic Places.

BCA has partnered with the Southeast Texas Food Bank, Brentwood Country Club and the United Steel Workers District 13 to provide canned goods and other non-perishable items to families in need in and around the Beaumont community.

The collection is being held by BCA and Market Basket and will then be delivered to Southeast Texas Food Bank for final distribution.

Toys are also being collected for delivery to Buckner Children & Family Services. Donations can be dropped off until Dec. 18 at BCA's headquarters in the Kyle Building, Brentwood Country Club and any Market Basket location.

The firm is holding its annual holiday party. In keeping with the nostalgic theme of the opening of the Kyle Building, "Santa Is Back In Beaumont" will recreate a Beaumont tradition from the 1930s when Santa Claus rode down Main Street in a reindeer-powered sleigh.

Kids will have the opportunity to meet and have their picture taken with Santa and his reindeer from 3-7 p.m.

On Saturday, Dec. 19, the Provost Umphrey Law Firm and the Hughen Center are bringing singer BJ Thomas to the Julie Rogers Theatre for a special Christmas performance.

The concert honors the Hughen School children and will also feature appearances from hometown favorite, Zona Jones, and family-friendly comedian, Dick Hardwick.

Thomas sold more than 70 million records during his career, garnering five Grammy Awards. He is perhaps best known for his 15 Top 40 hits including "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head," which was made popular in the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Proceeds from the Christmas concert will benefit the Hughen Center, which provides services to children and adults with physical disabilities and other functional impairments.

Tickets to the benefit are available at www.ticketmaster.com or at any TicketMaster location, including the Beaumont Civic Center, Central Mall and the HEB on Dowlen Road in Beaumont.

Before the concert, VIP guests are invited to a dessert reception at the theatre to meet the star performers. VIP tickets are also available online and at TicketMaster locations.
