Alleging a Jefferson County electric company breached its obligations, a union seeks general damages in a recently filed lawsuit.
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local 479 filed a lawsuit July 30 in Jefferson County District Court against Savants Electric Co., Savants Electric & Investment Co. and Assured Electrical Systems.
The union describes Assured as a signatory contractor which had obligations to pay standard wages, benefits and training, according to the complaint.
However, Assured and its alter egos, Savants Electric Co. and Savants Electric & Investment Co., breached these obligations, the suit states.
"After due notice and opportunity to be heard, the Labor/Management Committee of IBEW and NECA rendered judgment against all Defendants finding that they violated terms of the agreements and were liable for fines and penalties," the complaint says.
In addition to general damages, the union seeks pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.
John Werner of Reaud, Morgan and Quinn in Beaumont will be representing it.
The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
Jefferson County District Court case number: E187-439.
