A Jefferson County woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims failed to yield at a stop sign, causing a collision.

Christie Cooper claims she was driving south on S. Major Drive in Beaumont on June 18, 2009, when defendant Andrew D. Sanchez, who was driving a truck for defendant Clements Electric west on Brooks Road, failed to stop at a stop sign governing the intersection.

"The truck driven by Mr. Sanchez continued through the stop sign at Brooks Road and was attempting to cross South Major Drive when his vehicle crossed in front of Ms. Cooper's vehicle traveling on South Major Drive causing the two vehicles to crash into one another," the suit filed Aug. 13 in Jefferson County District Court states.

Because of the accident, Cooper incurred medical costs, experienced physical pain and suffering and endured physical impairment, according to the complaint. In addition, she lost earnings and suffered mental anguish, the complaint says.

Cooper blames Sanchez for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to yield the right of way and failed to enter into the intersection only when it was safe to do so.

In her complaint, Cooper is seeking unspecified damages, plus pre-judgment interest at the maximum rate allowed by law, post-judgment interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief to which she may be entitled.
