Seaman sues over trip and fall in galley

GALVESTON Carl Judd has filed suit against AET Offshore Services Inc. and AET Inc. Ltd. over a shoulder injury he reportedly sustained working aboard one of their ships.

Judd claims that he injured himself when he tripped and fell over steel pipes about 4 feet tall in the M/V Endeavor's galley area on Aug. 15, 2009.

Court papers were filed March 15 in Galveston County Court at Law No. 3.

According to the original petition, the benches and seats had been removed so repairs to the ship's tanks below could be completed.

"The steel posts form the base of the benches and seats, which AET's crew had removed under instruction of the ship's officers, had negligently and intentionally left the steel posts present and exposed," the suit states.

Judd alleges "no warnings, safety tape, boundaries, guards or other safety devices had been placed on and/or near the exposed steel pipes."

He seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

He is represented by The Lanier Law Firm PC.

The case has been assigned to Galveston County Court at Law No. 3 Judge Christopher Dupuy.
