A devastating explosion at a natural gas plant has led to a significant legal battle as two Texas residents seek justice for the life-altering injuries sustained. On February 20, 2025, Anthony Webb and Kayla Marie Webb filed a complaint in the District Court of Harris County, Texas, against Phillips 66 and Enbridge (U.S.) Inc., accusing them of negligence and gross misconduct.
The case stems from an incident on November 23, 2024, when Anthony Webb was working at a natural gas plant in Goldsmith, Texas. Owned or operated by Phillips 66 and Enbridge (U.S.) Inc., the plant became the site of a catastrophic fire and explosion shortly before noon. As a result, Anthony Webb suffered severe burns covering approximately 40% of his body along with other serious injuries. The complaint highlights that due to the severity of his injuries, he was airlifted to the University Medical Center's Burn Unit in Lubbock, Texas. The physical and emotional toll on both Anthony and his wife Kayla Marie Webb is described as life-altering.
The plaintiffs allege that Phillips 66 and Enbridge (U.S.) Inc. were negligent per se and grossly negligent for failing to use ordinary care to mitigate unreasonable risks associated with the premises' conditions. They accuse the defendants of inadequate supervision, training, screening of employees or contractors, negligent hiring practices, failure to maintain equipment properly, and lack of adequate safety policies. Furthermore, they assert that these companies failed to adhere to applicable government regulations and industry standards.
In their pursuit of justice, Anthony Webb seeks compensation for extensive damages including past and future physical pain and suffering, disfigurement, mental anguish, medical expenses, lost wages and earning capacity among others. Kayla Marie Webb claims loss of consortium alongside affection and companionship losses she has endured due to her husband's injuries. The Webbs are also seeking punitive damages citing willful disregard for safety by both companies involved.
