Slip and fall filed against Judice's French Market

Port Arthur resident Uyvonne Woodard has filed suit against Judice's French Market & Deli, alleging she slipped and fell while shopping.

The suit was filed March 31 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to her petition, on April 1, 2009, Woodard was shopping at the Port Arthur store. She was attempting to retrieve an item from a freezer when she "slipped on a clear, oily, liquid foreign substance on the floor and fell hard to the floor."

In her suit, Woodard says emergency personnel were needed to remove her from the store.

She further alleges Judice's French Market negligently failed to inspect and maintain its premises, warn shoppers of dangerous conditions and remedy the hazard.

The plaintiff is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Bellaire attorney Travis Evans represents her.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.
