Crane collapse at Motiva results in litigation

Jose Alonso is suing Motiva Enterprises and Becon Construction for injuries he received when a crane collapsed at the refinery.

The suit was filed Sept. 6 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Jan. 4 Alonso was working inside the Motiva refinery at Port Arthur when a crane lifting pipes fell backwards and collided with power lines.

The suit does not state how Alonso was injured.

However, the suit does allege the defendants negligently failed to provide him with a safe workplace and failed to make sure the crane was in working order.

The plaintiff is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Houston attorney Robert Ammons represents him.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
