A Jefferson County man has pinned the blame for a motorcycle collision on the seller of the bike.
Matthew DeZalia filed a lawsuit Aug. 30 in Jefferson County District Court against Republic Harley Davidson, now known as Republic Motorsports.
In his complaint, DeZalia alleges he was driving south on U.S. 69, taking the on-ramp to Interstate 10 in Beaumont on April 30 when the front tire on his motorcycle lost traction and began to hydroplane.
"The motorcycle then struck a tree stump, and the Plaintiff was thrown from the motorcycle," the suit states.
Because of the collision, DeZalia experienced physical pain, suffering and mental anguish and lost his earning capacity, the complaint says. In addition, he claims he incurred medical costs and suffered physical impairment.
DeZalia blames Republic Harley Davidson for causing his collision, saying the store's employees negligently failed to properly install the tires on his motorcycle.
DeZalia seeks an unspecified judgment, plus pre- and post-judgment interest at the highest legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.
