Woman, children sue over wreck on Folsom

A Beaumont woman alleges she and two children sustained various injuries after a driver backed out of a driveway and struck the vehicle in which they were riding.

Newassa Williams claims she was driving on Folsom Street in Beaumont on Jan. 19, 2010, when defendant Raeleen Cropper attempted to back from a private driveway and struck Williams's vehicle. At the time of the collision, two children identified as D. Williams and T. Mitchell were riding in Newassa Williams's vehicle, according to the complaint filed Nov. 30 in Jefferson County District Court.

Because of the collision, Newassa Williams suffered from dizziness, headaches and pain to her neck, back and shoulders, the suit states. D. Williams suffered from headaches, neck pain and anxiety while Mitchell experienced pain to her face, right arm and right leg along with anxiety, the complaint says.

Newassa Williams claims she and the children also suffered from physical impairment, physical pain and mental anguish. Newassa Williams incurred medical costs, sustained property damages and lost earnings and her earning capacity because of the collision, according to the complaint.

Cropper negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to timely apply her brakes and failed to yield the right-of-way, the suit states.

In her complaint, Newassa Williams is seeking an unspecified judgment, plus pre-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Jonathan C. Juhan and J.J. Bragg of Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.
