Wreck on Eastex leads to lawsuit

A woman claims she and her minor daughter suffered severe back injuries during a rear-end collision.

Snookie Spurlock filed a lawsuit Dec. 12 in Jefferson County District Court against Keaton Baker.

In her complaint, Snookie Spurlock alleges she and her daughter, Selyna Spurlock, were traveling on Eastex Freeway in Beaumont on Aug. 29 when they slowed for traffic. Suddenly, Baker struck the rear of the vehicle Snookie Spurlock was driving, according to the complaint.

In addition to their back injuries, the Spurlocks incurred medical costs and lost wages and their earning capacities, the suit states. They also experienced mental anguish, physical pain, suffering and disability and physical impairment and lost their enjoyment of life, the complaint says.

Snookie Spurlock blames Baker for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to control his speed, drove too fast and followed Snookie Spurlock too closely.

In her complaint, Snookie Spurlock seeks actual damages, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest at the maximum rate allowed by law and other relief the court deems just.

Clay Dugas and Mike Jacobellis of Clay Dugas and Associates in Beaumont will be representing her.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
