A Nederland man, who allegedly was driving while intoxicated, has settled an automobile collision suit for $14,000 in order to “buy peace.”
Individually, and as next of friend of Rachel Rodriguez, Misty Rodriguez filed suit against Ryan Johnson on March 5, 2012, in Jefferson County District Court.
The lawsuit alleged that on March 3, 2010, the plaintiffs were traveling north on Highway 69 approaching 39th Street in Port Arthur when Johnson rear-ended them.
The investigating officer determined Johnson was driving while intoxicated, the suit states.
Court records show that on Dec. 19 an agreed judgment involving minor was entered, stating that the parties reached an agreement.
The judgment states that the defendant has agreed to pay $14,000 “without admitting in any manner of liability but only to buy peace.”
The suit accused Johnson of negligently failing to keep a proper lookout, apply his brakes and avoid the collision.
Houston attorney Michelle Blum represents the plaintiffs.
Johnson is represented by Houston attorney Catherine Cockrell.
Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, is assigned to the case.
