Before a jury could be selected, an automobile collision suit between two people with the same last name settled on Monday.
As previously reported, Lashae Ashley Lavergne filed a lawsuit June 23, 2011 in Jefferson County District Court against Lashawn Paris Lavergne. The suit does not state if the two are related.
Two years later, the case was slated to go to trial on June 10. However, the parties reached a settlement beforehand, according to a courthouse official.
In the suit, Lashae Lavergne claims she rode as a passenger in a vehicle Lashawn Lavergne drove near the 5900 block of U.S. 69 in Port Arthur on Aug. 13, 2010, when the collision occurred. Lashae Lavergne does not specify how the accident happened.
Because of the collision, Lashae Lavergne sustained injuries, incurred medical costs, experienced physical pain and mental anguish and sustained physical impairment, according to the complaint.
Lashae Lavergne was seeking an unspecified judgment within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.
John A. Carwile of The Law Offices of John A. Carwile in Houston represents her.
Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, is presiding over the case.
