Three people are asking the court to determine whether a recently deceased man was legally married to a woman who is laying claim to some of his property.
John Comeaux, Bonnie Comeaux and Laura Cassell are asking the court to declare that defendant Dawn Ethel Janssen was not legally married to the recently deceased Jay Gregory Comeaux.
Janssen previously alleged she was legally married to Jay Comeaux before his death on Oct. 13, 2012, according to the complaint filed June 11 in Jefferson County District Court. Now she seeks unspecified rights that would have been afforded to her had she been legally married to Jay Comeaux, the suit states.
The plaintiffs anticipate spending at least $15,000 in legal fees to determine whether Janssen was legally married to Jay Comeaux, the complaint says.
In their complaint, the plaintiffs are seeking a declaration that Janssen was not legally married to Jay Comeaux, plus attorney’s fees, costs and other relief the court deems just.
John Pat Parsons of Lindsay, Lindsay and Parsons in Beaumont will be representing them.
The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
