Man blames Hummer driver for striking him at chemical plant

A Jefferson County man says he incurred medical costs when a truck driver ran over him.

Barajas Yacmin filed a lawsuit July 30 in the Jefferson County District Court against OCI Beaumont LLC and Ikechukwy Obodo.

According to the suit, Obodo was driving his Hummer at OCI Beaumont, an ammonia and methanol production facility, on June 18 when he struck Yacmin. Yacmin claims he sustained severe injuries.

In addition to his medical costs, Yacmin claims he lost wages, experienced physical pain and suffering and endured mental anguish because of the incident. He also suffered physical impairment and physical disfigurement, the suit states.

In his complaint, Yacmin blames Obodo for causing the collision saying he negligently failed to drive at a reasonable speed, failed to control his speed, drove too fast, failed to timely apply his brakes, failed to take evasive action and failed to keep a safe lookout.

Yacmin also names OCI Beaumont as a defendant, saying it negligently hired, retained and trained Obodo.

The plaintiff also seeks unspecified damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

He is being represented by attorney Cody Dishon of Provost Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont.
