Two longshoremen are suing the owner and operator of a vessel for injuries they say they suffered while on the job.

Brandon Moore and Vernon Guidry filed a lawsuit July 24 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Maritime Asia Zircon and Columbia Shipmanagement Singapore, alleging vessel negligence.

According to the complaint, on July 8, Moore and Guidry were working on a vessel known as the M/V Asia Zircon II when a load crashed down on them after the vessel's crane failed. The suit says the defendants failed to to provide a safe workplace, not ensuring the load was properly secured, failed to maintain the cables of the crane, and failed to warn or protect against hazards on the vessel.

The plaintiffs allege they have and will continue to endure physical pain and mental anguish, lost wages and loss of future earning capacity, permanent physical impairment and medical expenses.

Moore and Guidry seek damages of $5 million, plus court costs and other relief deemed appropriate by the court. They are represented by attorney Sean O'Rourke of Simon-O'Rourke Law Firm in Houston.
